Outhaul:
Identify the components:
- 1710mm 3.5 mm Dyneema Red/Pink – Outhaul
- 4810mm 4mm Dyneema Light Blue/Yellow Red - Outhaul
Instructions:
1. Splice an eye at one end of the Pink Dyneema line through a single block – or use a knot like a Stevedore Stopper knot (Figure of 8 with one more turn)
2. Run the other end of the line through the fairlead at the end of the boom and now through a hook block (or similar) and back to the fairlead and tie off on the fairlead.
3. Take the longer light blue/yellow line and tie it through the centre hole of the single block in 1 above using a Bowline. The block should have both lines (Pink and Blue/Yellow) attached to it now.
4. The light blue/yellow line should be passed through a single block that should be attached to the back of the Clamcleat situated on the boom – ideally using a Dyneema line with spliced loops at each end (not supplied).
5. To complete the Outhaul control line run the remaining line through a block held in place at the mast and down to the block on the S/S Plate at deck level and back to the Camcleat not forgetting to tie a Figure of 8 or Stevedore knot in the end.
Downhaul:
Identify the components:
- 1 x 620mm 3.5 mm Dyneema Red/Pink – Downhaul
- 1 x 3940mm 5mm Dyneema Light Yellow/Red – Downhaul
Instructions:
1. Splice an eye at one end of the Pink Dyneema line through a single block – or use a knot like a Stevedore Stopper knot (Figure of 8 with one more turn)
2. The other passes through the SS ring at the tack of the mainsail and tie the end to the vang mounting point at the mast.
3. To one end of the Dyneema Yellow/Red line tie a single block using a bowline
4. Take Dyneema Yellow/Red line and pass it through the block that has been spliced to the end of the Pink Dyneema line and down to the kicker mast attachment
5. Now pass that same line through the kicker mast attachment fitting (making sure it is clear of other lines) and back through the block tied to the other end of the Yellow/Red line
6. This provides the purchase for controlling the leech of the main
7. To complete the Downhaul control line run it down to the block on the S/S Plate at deck level and back to the Camcleat not forgetting to tie a Figure of 6f or Stevedore knot in the end
8. Finally adjust the positioning of the blocks and both lines to ensure the correct purchase of the Mainsail Luff is obtainable
